Certification Report of EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route in France

EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route in France (also known as La Vélodyssée), from Roscoff to Hendaye, is Certified as a high-quality EuroVelo route until October 2029. The report was released in October 2024 after a detailed analysis by ECF of the European Certification Standard (ECS) survey undertaken previously, and the evidence of solved issues provided by the collective of La Vélodyssée. More information about the ECS level of criteria met by each daily section and the remaining attention points can be found in this document.

EuroVelo Route Development Status Report (2024)

First published in 2021, this yearly report aims to outline levels of development across the network and improvements over the years, providing key numbers, statistics and comparison tables per route and per country. This Report is an important tool to track the progress made across Europe from year to year and encourage further developments by highlighting significant improvements per route and country. In 2024, 67% of the EuroVelo network is either certified, developed with signs or developed. The report also highlights a 5% increase in EuroVelo signage across Europe and more accuracy in available data. For the 1st time, the report includes a chapter with an analysis of EuroVelo data from OpenStreetMap.

EuroVelo Development Guide

This guide intends to provide recommendations and guidelines for stakeholders involved in the development of EuroVelo. According to the EuroVelo Strategy 2030, stakeholders involved in the development of EuroVelo should pay high attention to the quality of routes, which should cater to the needs of the largest possible group of potential users, and the integration of the routes into existing or planned cycle networks, also providing easy access to main public transport hubs. In order to help stakeholders achieve these goals, the EuroVelo Development Guide provides general and specific principles for the development of EuroVelo routes. This guide also provides recommendations on governance, presents the key elements of a good legislation for cycling, gives inspiration on available sources of funding and lists some good practices on EuroVelo and long-distance cycle routes development from across Europe.

EuroVelo Transnational Signing Manual

The main objective of this manual is to present the most general principles for signing long-distance cycle routes in general, and the specific requirements for incorporating EuroVelo logos on route panels. General principles for signage are relevant in the development of any long-distance cycle route. This manual can thus serve as a general resource for cycle route signage across Europe. This manual was prepared in the frame of the AtlanticOnBike project extension, co-funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme.

Transnational Guidance Document on Rest Areas

EuroVelo Routes Development Status Report 2022

The 2022 EuroVelo Routes Development Status Report prepared by the EuroVelo Management Team is the first one that allows a comparison with last year's results. It indicates that 64% of the network is now certified, developed with signs or developed, meaning that over 56,000 km out of 93,000 are ready to use for cycle tourists, and that the highest increases in development levels took place on EuroVelo 10 - Baltic Sea Cycle Route, in Ireland and in Spain.

European Certification Standard Manual - Quality criteria for long-distance cycle routes

The European Certification Standard (ECS) is a methodology developed by ECF to assess cycling routes, EuroVelo or not, and evaluate their quality. It can be used to survey and assess the quality of national/regional routes, and to certify EuroVelo routes if the criteria are met. It can help set up national standards where they do not exist and harmonise the different regulations in the European states. This manual on the ECS provides a quick introduction to the basic principles and criteria of this methodology.

This good practice describes the establishment of a cycling tourism development coordination body in Croatia. This was very important for the coordination of all cycling and cycling tourism development activities at the state and regional level, as well as for cooperation with other countries in the European Union. This good practice was prepared by the Croatian National Tourist Board as part of the MEDCYCLETOUR project.

Parenzana - Route of Health and Friendship

A former railroad track in Slovenia and Croatia was turned into a beautiful cycle route. This is a good practice of cross-border cooperation to improve the tourist offer (in Istria), prepared by the Regional Development Centre Koper as part of the MEDCYCLETOUR project.

MEDCYCLETOUR Good Practice – GIFT 2.0

The Gift 2.0 project aims to improve mobility between Italy and Greece both for goods and passengers. This Good Practice was developed by Italy's Mantovano region in the frame of the MEDCYCLETOUR project. The document explains the EuroVelo 8 Bike Shuttle: a service for the transportation of cycling tourists from and to the Mantuan municipalities near the river Po stretch of EuroVelo 8 - Mediterranean Route.

MEDCYCLETOUR Good Practice – Discovering the territory by bike: free of charge bicycle lease

This Good Practice was developed by Italy's Mantovano region in the frame of the MEDCYCLETOUR project. Families and sports cyclists can discover the Oltrepò Mantovano territory by bike with an all-inclusive service: Consorzio Oltrepò Mantovano provides local farmhouses (and also other tourist facilities) with bikes free of charge. Any tourist can rent the bikes for free during their stay in these selected tourist facilities.

EuroVelo 1 AtlanticOnBike Corporate Design Manual
